GSA R.H. Metcalfe Federal Building, Chicago, IL
The Government Services Administration takes a proactive role to ensure its facilities minimize their impact on the environment. The GSA was interested in conserving water in its Metcalfe Federal Building, located in Downtown Chicago.
Challenge
The Metcalfe Federal Building was not a new structure, but an existing building in the middle of a large city. This scenario offered limited options for a retrofit system that could reduce water use.

Solution
Wahaso designed a water harvesting system to collect condensate from the air conditioning system for cooling tower use. Condensate from air conditioning systems is usually wasted into the municipal sewer or stormwater system but reusing it will help to conserve water that would have otherwise been wasted!
Results
The system saves about 672,000 gallons of water annually.
